New Year

I never really liked January. It's not much to it, it feels quite gloomy after Christmas and it's a long way to Spring.

So, I never really like January until last year, that is...
Now January is my by far the most favourite month. I better explain...

After what seems to be like a 4 months of solid marathon of making chocolates, baking gingerbreads and creating Christmas Decorations, never having a time to even think and often sleep and eat ( really I don't exaggerate, but those who know me, know I actually thrive on it !) - January feels like being on holiday ! It's amazing - you discover your own house again, speak to friends, catch up on washing, cleaning, re-design website or have the time to get rid of television that stopped working back in April.

January is bliss, time to reflex, dream and plan the whole year. But, as you have guess it there is a little snag - the tax return is due in January, so can't quite hibernate completely.

I don't know about you, but I have started to work on my tax return on 24 December. So far, I have spend 3 hrs on Skype with my brother (talking websites and cars, of course), crashed my car (actually got crashed into...), purchased new table and reorganised my workspace. After a year of working in every single room in the house (apart from the cupboard under the stairs) I fell I really needed a proper space to do my admin in. So, last night I finally assembled the new table and proudly finished putting all my files in the shelves above it at 2 am.

Today, I honestly was going to start on my tax return only to discover that the highest & furthest place from our Internet router is not the place where you can even log in. Fast forward another 12 hrs and I'm now (table dismantled, pushed through the doors and assembled yet, again, bags of rubbish disposed off and files kicked in ) in the smallest attic room in our house, where apart from the lack of space, there is a brilliant signal. As for the tax return - well I still have few more days...

So now, I'm going to check what everyone else has been up to over at Handmade Harbour.

  1. Haha, tax returns. Ours are due in April (my birthday month!) so we have time. And of course, my husband does them so I only get to listen to him about it, I don't actually have to DO them, thank goodness, that would be a mess since math is NOT my second language.
It sounds tho, like you NEED a good unwinding. Enjoy January.

  2. Glad you enjoy January....I have to be honest and say I dont although a bit of relief comes with planning what to grow in the garden!! Tax returns in this house are usually done at the last minute.

  3. I love your vivid descriptions as they made me smile. I agree that there is a sort of collective slump in January although had not really thought about it before you mentioned it. Good luck with the tax return.

    1. Slump is not bad at all ! It gives us chance to catch up and take a deep breath. Thanks for your lovely comments, by the way...
